DESCRIPTION:  Diego Velázquez devoted his whole life to painting the Royal Family. His techniques influenced the way of painting of his contemporaries. Las Meninas (The Maids of Honor) is his masterpiece. We can see in the middle of the painting the King’s daughter – princess Margarita, 5 years of age – along with her Maids of Honors. Velázquez painted himself (right side of the painting) while he worked on a paiting of the King and the Queen. Goya and Picasso also did their own version of Las Meninas.
